Fill your Mother’s Day with beautiful wildflower images and the music of Meadowlark as flutist Lynn Trombetta and guitarist Rick Cyge perform at Old Town Center for the Arts in Cottonwood on Sunday, May 13, 2012 at 3:00 p.m.
This very special Mother’s Day concert will feature full-color projection of images by nature photographer, Paul Gill during the performance, along with other surprises for Mom.
Performing on flutes, pennywhistles, guitar and mandolin, the intriguing husband and wife duo, Meadowlark creates an uplifting, instrumental voyage inspired by the beauty of natural places. Riding between worlds, these seasoned story-weavers draw listeners in to experience the places and times that served as inspiration for their unique compositions: A hovering hawk takes flight through string-tapping on Rick Cyge’s prized Lowden guitar; ocean surf resonates in the warm and mellow tones of Lynn Trombetta’s flute. Along the way, Meadowlark seems to change character in chameleon-like fashion from song to song, melding influences as diverse as Celtic, African, and Mediterranean in their original compositions.
Paul Gill will be at the event to sign his books and answer questions about his stunning images. A native of the Arizona desert, Gill’s photographs have appeared on the cover and pages of Arizona Highways Magazine, calendars and books along with Natures Best Magazine and many scenic publications, calendars and books as well as displayed in fine art galleries. Paul received his bachelors of fine arts from Arizona State University and had worked as an art director for 17 years before turning all of his attention to photographing the grandeur of nature in 1975. Gill recently released Wild in Arizona: Photographing Arizona’s Wildflowers, A Guide to When, Where and How, which he co-authored with Colleen Miniuk-Sperry (Analemma Press 2012).
Guitarist Rick Cyge’s folk roots run deep and his harp-like fingerstyle guitar work wraps around the music. His New England folk beginnings as a singer/composer/guitarist were enhanced by his being founder of Wood & Strings Music Center, a hub of concerts, music instruction and fine instruments in the Boston scene. In 1989 his travels brought him to the deserts of Arizona. Former Program Director of the local venue, Studio Live, he currently resides in Sedona with wife and partner, Trombetta, an Arizona native.
Lynn Trombetta’s musical career was nourished in the magnificent canyons of Sedona, Arizona where she spent her childhood summers, playing her flute from high and allowing the sounds to waft down through Oak Creek. She is also a visual artist and published author.
Meadowlark’s Discography includes eight releases that have garnered reviews in international magazines and international airplay. Two have charted in the New Age Voice Top 100 Radio Play List. Their Fire on the Mountain benefit CD, underwritten by Salt River Project was released to raise funds for Trees for the Rim, a reforestation project for areas damaged in the 2002 Rodeo-Chedeski fire. Cyge’s original compositions, performed by Meadowlark, have been used for films including a film by Audubon Arizona for the Audubon Nature Center, Salt River Preserve.
